I'm just curious to see if anyone has used Mike Mentzer's Heavy Duty routine "to the T" and what their results were...positive OR negative.

ive tried it a little here and there. its not bad to cycle into your workouts. so what i mean is, i wouldnt do it all the time. maybe like for 2-4 weeks straight, see if your gaining and liking it, then continue for another 2-4 weeks and then switch back to a more regular bodybuilding routine or whatever you wanna do. see he did do those workouts, and a lot of BBs do use HIT outlines but they dont do it all the time. we always have to switch things up, so try it out. im sure you'll be sore as hell for a while.

Training to failure completely destroys the CNS and is really a terrible way to increase strength, simply because your training to fail, if you do increase strength this way i'll be impressed. As far as hypertrophy goes it may be an excellent routine. I was just posting from a functional strength standpoint, not a bodybuilding standpoint.

It seems Mentzer program worked really really well for Mentzer, but not so much for others.

Actually, I think there is a lot of truth to mentzer's training philosophy, but mostly in terms of rest, amount of sets, and recovery. I'm a believer that most people do too much, too many sets, etc, digging themselves into a catabolic state for too long. recovery is priority.

For me it worked well for a very short term shock on the body and to change things up while I was in between programs back when I was into bodybuilding mode. Definitely nothing that could be sustained and show results long term for me. There are many many forms and religions of HIT out there. I've tried a few of them and each are interesting in their philosophies. Now that I'm in it purely to gain strength it has no place in my training.
