About a year ago, I could go and smash some golf balls like crazy. I come back recently and just can't manage to hit a single ball worth a damn.

Could it be due to the fact that I've added about 20lbs of muscle in the last year? Or maybe that I've been training my muscles for maximal force production?

I know I can re-train my muscles not to fire at 100%, but it'll take some time, and practice. Just can't force the ball to move. dry.gif

Anyone else have this problem? Or am I just a nerd for golfing?

Yeah, I have a problem with trying to make my muscles do the work, when all the work should be done by the club head.

Having a bulky upper body makes it tough to get a full backswing without bending the front elbow.

Just keep practicing.

I'm trying to get my killer slice under control.

You prob lost alot of flexibility with the muscle add on, and now you're trying to make up for it by using your muscles, which will never work. Its like baseball, the easier and smoother you swing, the better youre gonna hit the ball. Plus in golf you gotta be able to really wind up, short swings wont do shit, and you cant do any of that if you aren't flexible.

Im fair, one of those every other shot is good golfers, but all my friends are the same or worse, so when we go, its fun. Plus we just fuck around on the golf carts.

I had the same problem when I went to the range earlier this summer .... instead of just making a nice swing I was trying to hit the ball with the club and that really didn't work very well at all.... it was so hard to just make a golf swing rather than a strike at it. I haven't played a round all summer.... back when I was a fatty I had like a 4 handicap, lol.

Shit, I hear you.

Last summer I was smashing it and this summer I can't manage shit.

last time i went was great..it was weird. I hadnt gone for a year or so, then I somehow managed to hit it very well, was hittin 250yrd+ strait shots pretty consistantly, was no pro, but Id say outta 10 balls i would hit 7 very nicely. Its also an awesome club, I was usin the Callaway Big Bertha i think. Awesome sweet spot.

Just got some practice balls (wiffle ball looking things). These things are great, they only go about 30-40ft max, so I can practice any time I want to without going to the driving range.

I still only have one driver, which is tiny as hell, and weighs about 50lbs. I need to invest in some clubs. But I figure if I can get good with this tiny, heavy club, it will be easy going to a good driver. Maybe. At least I can get the muscle control down.

Haha yeah those things are fun and safe...but really offer no replacement for a real golfball....Good for pitching n having fun though..

Yeah, it's hard to tell if I'm actually hitting the balls right with these.

I was only managing to hit the real balls about 30-40ft, so I'd imagine hitting these things 30-40ft is about the same as hitting a real ball pretty far, but still hard to interpret angle and distance. At least I can HIT the ball now.

They also had lighter plastic balls with the dimples on them. I think I’m gunna pick some of those up, see what I can do with those.
