 | QUOTE (willpiazza31 @ Jun 18 2008, 05:34 PM) | | Who the hell wants an electric car? Until they are as fast and dependable as gas powered cars that concept will never take off. |
They are as fast. But the blessed powers that be have everyone believing that the technology is garbage. Check it out. Long term is you can drive 200 to 300 miles per day without recharging and less parts than gas to replace other than batteries, which is one of the reasons that parts companies / auto suppliers have tried to steer away from them. There are so many corporate execs that would lose money if the industry went completely electric. Needless to say whether you like electrics or not. You don't get a choice because it's already been chosen for you. It's not a matter of supply and demand it's a matter of those with the money control the show and keep the money.

Sounds like you're an expert in the field.
I guess I've just seen those pieces of shit that go like 40mph tops and have to be recharged every few hours.

the other thing i laughed my ass off about was E85 ethanol fuel. I actually saw a station that stocked it and the price/gallon was only 30 cents cheaper than gas (like $3.65/gallon). Furthermore, why would the auto industry be against less parts cars? it would mean lower expenditures and since people are already price-conditioned with cars, they could still sell them for the same as gas-powered and make even better profits. This is why I keep telling everyone to just shut the fuck up and buy a motorcycle. A 600cc supersport has a much better horsepower-weight ratio than a corvette and I pull 48-50 MPG on every tank, which is better than the EPA estimates for a Prius. What is it? Like 75% of the population drives solo in a car and how many of those ever take anything more than what they could fit in a backpack with them anyway? I fill up on 94-octane for under $15, which lasts about 10 days of commuting.

Motorcycles are great - but you can't drive em year round in Michigan. Trust me I wish you could. N I'm getn the fuck outta this state in a couple years. I don't know the stats but service and parts are a huge chunk of the pie for automakers. If they aren't repairing and replacing - they stand to lose a lot of their income. You don't think they could build engines and parts that would last a lot longer? They build shit that will break in a reasonable amount of time so they can either fix what you got or sell you a new one. Why would I build something I can only sell you once when I can build something I get paid to fix or replace? Although, this said, the foreign auto makers are raising the bar. Oh yea and ethanol is not the answer it's driving up food costs like mad. You have to feed most animals with corn so now that ethanol has driven up the demand for corn, everything that eats corn goes up in price. Thats why milk, cheese, etc.. have almost doubled in the last two years along with gas. Not counting delivery costs are skyrocketing directly because of gas prices. So if we convert to ethanol we pay twice as much for food and maybe save some on gas... Not the answer. Once again this will not get us away from oil dependency and all the corps makin money from petrodollars are gonna keep on doing it, because they are the ones making the rules.

 | QUOTE (Roids @ Jun 19 2008, 11:07 AM) | | I've thought of this, but the thought of crashing with only two wheels and nothing between me and the pavement scares the fuck out of me. |
me too, that's why you can't be too cautious and it's what always keeps me on my toes. (and in my protective gear!) and why I my exhaust is loud as fuck so people know i'm coming! i'm sure if i lived in a big city it'd be different but out here in the suburbs most people are very cautious around me. | QUOTE | | Motorcycles are great - but you can't drive em year round in Michigan. same here in Ohio! but i can squeeze about 8 months/year out of it as I was riding up to December last year. My dad has one as well and pulls 70 mpg out of his 500cc Buell. Plus chicks LOVE bikes. I mean, not that I like Europe as a model for much, but their gas prices are, what?, double ours? They drive those 90-100 MPG scooters all over the place. I think we're just too stubborn or conditioned to driving gas guzzlers. Drilling offshore and what not would be good ideas, but in the end they are only prolonging our bad habits and delaying an inevitable problem.

 | QUOTE (DR X @ Jun 19 2008, 10:23 AM) | Someone needs to start punching some holes in the ground now. Also those nuclear plants need to get bulit.
Think about it, Michigan is hurting, build a plant and you can revitalize the state, have a cleaner environment, job, jobs, jobs.
Someone please throw me a bone here. |
Werd^ to X. I love the way the faggot dems talk about exploring alternatives fuels, yet everytime a new idea is on the table, they bend over for the enviro-nazis and refuse to allow any new facilities (nuke plants, refineries, etc.) to be built. We can't even acces the oil from shale because we might emit some CO2 or disturb some fucking insect. Do the dems not realize that the enviro-nazis don't give a shit about the economy or the current energy crisis? If our economy collapsed tomorrow, all the better for the enviro-nuts. That would actcually be good for their cause since a slow economy means less disturbance of nature, less CO2, etc. Bush needs to declare the entire country in a state of emergency and issue some executive orders to drill for oil and start building refineries and nuke plants before the end of the year. He might as well get one thing accomplished before he leaves office.
