While I'm sure you all were happy to have your rebate checks, who in there right mind thinks it's a good idea to just mail out money to people to solve the economic problems of our country? Now Obama wants the fed to send out another $50 Million... conveniently right after he gets the Dem nomination... maybe cause people will associate their next $300 with him. I have lost all faith in our leaders.

Sorry, I just hate this idea that when businesses aren't hiring enough people we should just start throwing money at them. Especially when it's from the people who think tax cuts for big businesses (you know, the one's who are having to let people go) are a terrible idea. It's absurd especially when the gov't has excluded us college students who are the future of the American economy!

This guy is a real piece of work. Talk about a democrat, and I don't mean in the political sense.

"He said that he supports the expansion and extension of unemployment benefits, as well as a second round of tax rebate checks."

Sure, give more money to those demming it up. Great idea pal.

Brian, I think you meant $50 BILLION!!!

Obama really is a dumbass. I am surprised though, that he's willing to take money AWAY from the government and give it back to the people. Typically, liberal Democrats are about taking money away from you.

You know, when you think about it... it's almost humorous how the democratic party has evolved over this past century:

Back in the FDR days they solved unemployment by creating a myriad of government-paid jobs for the unemployed.

Then they we gave up on that and just started giving them unemployment benefits.

Now, we just skip all that crap and mail them a wad of cash.

It's a regression, I guess. Not that I'm a big fan of FDR's New Deal and all that socialist BS, but at least you had to build a dam or a road or something to get money from the government.

I think the next step is just to send out miniature mints so people can just make their own money.

Just goes to show how much of a politician he really is. Willing to throw his usual principles out the door to score a few cheap political points, hoping to garner some extra votes in the process.

Keep in mind that the $ you're getting back is $ that you already earned and paid to the govt. So, it's not like you're getting something that isn't yours. If they have to give it back to you to in order to boost the economy, then you have to question why you had to give it to them in the forst place.

Hey, a second round of rebate checks sounds better than Hillary's plan of buying your vote with US savings bonds and college savings accounts for everyone.

His energy plan will really be gang busters if he can get every piece of it implemented by 2030 as he plans. All this and higher taxes for whomever he defines as wealthy americans should really get this economy turned around.

Speaking of taxes!

that's what amazed me about this. There's this democratic idea that tax cuts won't stimulate the economy... but they were all for the rebate checks (essentially a tax cut since you're just getting money you paid in taxes back) while at the SAME TIME thinking we should end up taxing more to fund additional social programs. It can't work both ways.

It's also why you should NEVER EVER trust a politician who says they're going to only tax the rich. Who the fuck in their right mind is gonna substantially raise THEIR OWN taxes? It's a naive belief people have that's either put forth by a liar who won't do it or a swindling hypocrite who will incorporate a way to avoid taxing himself.

I would be very interested to see what most politician's net worth is, especially broken down by party if anyone knows where to find that kind of data.

In my eyes obama is a schmuck thru and thru, but you also cant argue with experience...

ask yourself this....

how many years has obama been seriously involved in politics?

how many years has Mccain been involved?

now, would you rather have a rookie heart specialist working on you or a 20 yr vet. of doing open heart procedures....pretty clear cut in my eyes.

big EFF to Obama..

IDK, there's no win with this guy.

If he gets elected, we all get fucked.

If he doesn't, we get to listen to how racist America is for not electing him.

You're 100% right. I'd totally rather have Darrell Armstrong run my team than Chris Paul.

I mean...Armstrong's been in the league like 12 more years...pretty clear cut in my eyes.

Big EFF to Paul.

I think if Obama gets elected, they better step up their security. There are still a lot of people in this country that won't stand for having a black president. So if he is elected you better plan on his running mate as being president. I give him 6 months before some hillbilly yahoo takes him out.

That's a sad commentary on what some Americans are capable of, even still in 2008.

As sad as it is though, you really never know what might happen.

Luckily though, I believe he will have some some heightened security. He was placed under Secret Service protection very, very early in his campaign.

I think it's smarter to prepare to defend this country against its sworn enemies, rather than worry about fellow american "yahoos" that might try to cause the country harm.

That being said, Obama has publicly stated that he would be open to holding face to face meetings w/ the leaders of Iran, without preconditions. Iran, as everyone knows, directly supports terrorism.

So tell me, who should we be more worried about. Our own citizens that we're denegrating as "hillbillies" attacking a sitting president or an entire regime that refers to the U.S. as The Great Satan?

Granted, these are two singular issues (crazies that would want to murder a President and the state of Iran and the potential they may or may not have to threaten the US's security) but I don't believe America, or it's leaders should ever have to choose between addressing domestic issues or foreign policy issues. It's not a matter of "one or the other"...the economy, healthcare, housing, energy, etc all need to be shored up here at home, while at the same time diplomacy must be engaged abroad to avoid unnecessary military conflict.

Iran will retailiate eventually. Or we could say they have weapons of mass destruction and hail war on them and then place a more favorable government/leader into power... again.

Gee I wonder why they hate us.

Well said Dub! As I've stated before, I think you are basically a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet. wink.gif

Ultimately, I think we're all batting for the same team. The real question is who has the ability to best handle all of these issues. Unfortunately, I don't believe we have a candidate who has the experience or intellect to do so. Obama is nothing more than an inexperienced idealogue who is putting a fresh face on old worn out campaign promises, while McCain is just another career politician who is trying to be everything to everybody; a chameleon candidate. This time around, we're not going to fare well no matter who is elected.

It's ultimately going to take major frustration and new demands from the public to get things changed. Once the public gets angry and frustrated enough, to the point where politicians start to feel that their re-election is at stake, they will eventually put partisanship and special interests aside and make the right decisions.
