I was drinking a high carb post workout shake in the past. I recently tore my rotator cuff and can not workout my upper body with heavy weights. The question is should I still drink the high carb post workout drink. Or is it more likely to turn to fat?

For me, it depends on the type of day. If I train around dinnertime, I eat carbs afterward. If I work out closer to bedtime, I keep them low.

So you're saying that when you train legs you don't drink your high carb shake?

im not a doctor...i guess u shud hav a adequate supply of protein/carbs/fats for a individual that is injured &works out (if ur still wrkinout) to heal @a appropriate rate. For both injury &wrkout routine.

if u feel that ur takin in too much carbs u can still do cardio to burn off the excess carbs (treadmill, jogging, ect). ur injury shudnt interfere w/ur legs. i dun think it wud, if the appropriate excerise is being implemented.

Speak to ur doctor and see what s/he has to say.

I would say play it by ear. If you have to do a pansy workout with light weights cause you are limited by a bum shoulder then reduce the carbs afterwards.

As long as you keep the protein high you'll be ok.

EDIT - it's not like you'll need all those carbs anyway since you wouldn't have depleted any glycogen stores messing around with light weight

Also for your rotator cuff tear, you might want to look into SuperCissus RX; it should help repair it faster.

Definitely still add in carbs to your shake, you don't have to go full blown with them as much as the days you totally kill it in the gym, as Will said.

If you aren't in the gym on off days, I'd still add carbs to your morning shakes and none later on, unless you feel the need for extra energy.

I'd still drink the shake on training days.
