Wow first day of MMA training today.. we did judo/stretching all class.

It was so sick, did lots of take down/throws then we did grappling for the last 45min which was so much fun. My entire right leg I can barley move right now.

tomorrow is boxing/kick boxing.

anyone else here do MMA???

I did for a little while, as well as boxing.

It was not really for MMA or Boxing though, i trained fighting because i am an ice hockey defensemen. There's a few NHL players George Laroque for example, that train with boxing coaches to give them the upperhand in fights on the ice.

So, i figured i'd give it a shot.

Ive studied american style KB, wing chun, karate, and krav maga. I found krav maga to be the most practical wink.gif

I've been training Gracie Jiu-jitsu for over a year. I do that two days a week, box once a week, and do a jitsu/striking conditioning class once a week.

My Jiu-jitsu instructor trains at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy with Sean Sherk, Brock Lesnar, and Nick Thompson.

the judo/jujitsu teacher seems like a really cool skilled fighter.

Wow Sambo, it's rare to find real Sambo in the US. IMO I think it, or Judo are the best base grappling art for combat sports. You get take downs, and TD defense like wrestling ,plus joint locks, and chokes like Jujitsu.

Any fighting classes you take the better! I took karate, I got up to either a green or brown which is only a few levels in.

But man was I light on my feet, balance was off the hook, and even endurance was kicking ass. I was super confident that if anyone messed with me, I'd throw them a beating pretty easily. Even if all I used was legs, which isn't the case now its been a good 5 years since I've practiced.

I'd recommend a fighting class to your guys' girls before aerobics, not only learning how to kick some ass but getting a hell of a aerobic workout. Much better than jazzercise!!!

Anyway thats cool Miggy that you're doing it, keep it up it'll only help in the weight room.

Goods, I took Karate at Western for a semester. The instructor was kind of a dick at first but once he noticed you put in work he was cool. I think he was cop or something, decent sized and man was he quick. He knew that everyone was taking the class for a blow off, two weeks in 1/2 the class was gone he made us work so hard. If you weren't throwing kicks and punches good enough, he'd make everyone start over even got in a few people's faces. Accidentally gave a kid a bloody nose one class, he said it was accident but I'm not so sure from my angle. I sweat my balls off a few times in that class from people pissing around, but it was still awesome I freakin' loved it.

Yeah, one of the guys I train BJJ with is an old school Judoka. He earned his second degree black belt in it in the late 80's before having to stop due to military deployment. He said judo is the best base for anyone interested in combat sports. I think even Bruce Lee said that.

Sambo looks bad ass but like you said, good luck finding a Sambo place here in the US.

I've been doing Judo for a couple years and I love it. If I have to defend myself against someone who doesn't know how to fall, I know it won't be pretty for them.

I'm currently training in Muay Thai and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. Wrestled for a little bit before, but would easily pick BJJ over wrestling any day. Need to train more in takedowns though dry.gif

Haha, I remember being thrown for the first time and not knowing how to fall properly. Got the wind knocked out of me hardcore and my ribs hurt for the rest of practice. Luckily, the old judoka I train with taught me how to fall after and things have been going much smoother.

I was lucky, I had already been wrestling for 2 years before I tried Judo.
