Post Workout, What's the best? |  |

 Hey guys, quick question. I've always taken a weight gainer post workout b/c of the calories, carbohydrates, protein,etc. My friends have been telling me that I'm not supposed to take a weight gainer post workout b/c it's a concentrate protein, not an isolate. I know that concentrates take longer to digest than isolates, but does this matter? I thought you were supposed to have so many calories, protein, carbs, immediately after your workout. I've always done this and had great success, but I don't want to be cheating myself. Should I be taking an isolate post workout for faster absorbtion? Thanks P.S. If I've posted this more than once, it's b/c Bulk Nutrition forums is being weird and not letting me post a topic.

 If you've had great success with this, why switch things up? A weight gainer PostWO IMO is fine. Isolate is only better digested, plus with the weight gainer your not just getting simply whey concetrates, there are more then likely other forms of protein.

well 60g protein and 30g carbs is 360 calories, and you said you get 900 calories. 900-360/9= 60

noob, if you were anymore knowledgeable about whats the most anabolic you would obviously have used muscletech products. you need to get yourself Jay Cutlers Mass Stack. Thats what allowed him to win last year at the olympia.

 Focus on quick digesting carbs and protein. Leave the fat out on PWO. Fat slows down the absorption rate of the carbs and protein. Get some malto and dextrose- very economic and effective PWO. The absorption rate of whey concentrate is still very good it just has a lower protein percentage and is a little slower acting then isolate. The weightgainer might work well but is limiting your recovery and gains. Leave fat out of your PWO shake.

Option one would be Mass Meal with 30 grams of Supercarb,very cost effective. Or I'd go with maxy waize starch and Supercarb in equal amounts as CHO cources for post w/o.Good choices for Protien sources at this time are Ergo's GF Pro or Optimum's 100% Whey Protien. With either direction,SyntheSIZE should be included to optimize the anabolic effect of a meal.

 IMO, you should have a basic protein shake the contains a blend of Whey Concentrate, Isolate, and Hydro-isolates (like ON 100% whey) and added in a scoop of simple carbs ( dextrose) right after your work out. Bring it with you to the gym then have your heavy calorie whole food meal about an hour after (usually the time it takes to get home from the gym and cook something anyway). The idea being yes, isolate absorbs much faster then Whey concentrate but you don't absorb all of it. Think of like trying to catch baseballs being thrown at you with a wide bucket, if they are being thrown rapidly all at once yes (isolate) they will get there faster but you're going to miss much more than if the first wave came quick to fill the bottom of your bucket then started getting slower and slower (hydro-isloate & concentrate) making it easier for you to catch therefore you catch more in a still relative short period of time. By adding in Dextrose you will have simple carbs for the sole purpose of stopped your post workout catabolic state...I like to add in a small amount of Vitamin C power (don't need too much, its very bitter) but intense exercise increase formation of free-radicals and the Vit C will nuetralize that.
