Theoretically I could learn everything I needed to know about being a heart surgeon, by reading books, but would you let me do a triple bypass?

No, but I would if you were an apprentice working and learning under a heart surgeon for 5-6 years. I didn't mention just learning from books. I also mentioned a vo-tech approach to school.

I don't think it would take a hard look at statistics to see the wellness of those who have college degrees vs. those that have just a HS diploma and/or a 'vo-tech' education.

It's about being well-rounded... that's where college comes in. No, I don't want to have my heart surgery performed by a doctor who's only secondary education came from some type of 'apprenticeship'.

I hope all of you naysayers encourage your kids to go to college. Seriously.

All you would learn, from the apprenticeship is what to do, but not why. Besides isn't that what college, basically is? An extended apprenticeship under many tutors?

Hmmm...as far as college being a scam and being up to your eyeballs in debt, in the words of Eric Cartman "You can suck my balls!"

4 years in the military, none the worse for wear, indefinitely more disciplined, $40,000 for college with some classes already done for free.

college is hell ya. u do need that piece of paper for most jobs that actually pay with benifits.

however there are many blue collar good paying jobs that require a lot less school and some of the jobs are pretty cool.

You can be an officer if you've got a degree already. Officers don't do shit, hence OFFICE-er. Basically you're the boss.

Specifics you'd have to talk to a recruiter about, but as is my understanding a bachelors degree is a bachelors degree. Whether its in nuclear physics or underwater basketweaving. Obviously a degree in your job would be helpful though being in a managerial position of an officer. Check it out man, good pay, guaranteed paychecks twice a month, free healthcare, "travel", etc. Only downside is putting up with military bullshit.

i hate recruiters i mean they always try to talk you in to joining, so hard. I mean I understand it's their job but you gotta know when to stop.

WOw this is depressing- there are tons of jobs for everyone- you just have to realize what it is your good at and then go for it- not think what you should be or what someone expects you to be and force yourself down that path.

Just Do it- get it done-

words to live by.

True, and most of them are douches anyways. Mine was a huge fucking nerd. They have quotas too.
