I was watching a training DVD by Bob Chicherillo and he was saying he was a big fan of straps for muscle isolation.

How many people think its worth while buying some?

Straps are a double edged sword. On the one hand, they allow you to use more weight, than your grip can handle, on the other hand, it leads to a weak grip.

Ah ok thanks!

I guess i could just use the straps for half the time and work on my grip the other half

I'm not a fan of straps myself right now , love wraps, but that's just because I really need to have my grip strength up to par for competition. If you are trying to go beyond what your grip can handle though because you're doing pulling type movements then go for it. Just do not forget to do some grip training and only use them when your grip does start failing and not before.

check out APT. They have a HUGE assortment of straps and really good prices.

It's pretty simple actually, what's your goal?

Strongman or powerlifter - no straps

Bodybuild (muscle hypertrophy) - use straps

I rather have a huge back and with a less than stellar grip than have a great grip but a popsicle stick back.

Nah, just strongmen use straps quite a bit more then powerlifters do and can be used in some of their lifts in competition. A few powerlifters do train with straps as well though to.

Second thing was I've never seen an intermediate or advanced powerlifter whose back wasn't strong or looked like a stick.

Good points.

I was amazed to see straps being used in the WSM in the barrel deadlift.

What I meant is that you would accelerate back development with straps than waiting for your grip to catch up to your back strength.

I can understand using a special shirt to increase your bench by 250lbs, but hand straps for deadlifting? Gimme a break. That's just plain cheating!

I figured out what you were saying. I just thought it was funny. Why I didn't say anything.

Yeah I never understood that PL double standard.

They should use straps. Maybe one day you'll see a 2000lb deadlift! ohmy.gif

I love straps.

1. Lets me use more weight
2. Lets me use the muscle I wanna work without having to worry about my grip/forearms failing.
3. Who says "lets go to the gym and work on our grip. Seriously. If you workout, naturally youre gonna develope pretty decent grip strength.

But I do recomend doing a workout here n there without em. Just to switch things up. Youll feel the difference.

My grip is a big factor in me not being able to do more weight for shrugs and deadlift. Also, I've been considering knee straps for my lanky ass doing squats too. What's the difference between these? Should I get a certain size or material? IDKWTF the difference is between any of these, I just wanna get solid, comfortable, supportive ones to SFW with.

Advices?
