| Pot was originally criminalized because of Mexicans. |

This makes sense actually. Think about it. It's probably true. |
| Posted by: Supertzar Mar 31 2008, 11:26 AM | ||
Not really. The general distrust of Mexicans was used to make people afraid of cannabis. That is why they popularized the term marijuana. The reason for prohibition is mainly that cannabis has the power to dominate industry and medicine, cheaply. Big oil, big pharma, logging, chemicals, cotton - all these are threatened by legal cannabis. |

| I think it is illegal for the same reason that most all narcotics are illegal with the exception of alcohol (too socially acceptable). If it is legalized, it could be the answer to some of our current financial woes; i.e. a new source of revenue for the govt and possibly even a new golden industry. I can just imagine the possibilities. |

I agree, take the billions spent policing pot, and the billions lost in tax revenue, and use it to better fund other shit, like schools, fire departments etc. |

I love to eat. It's easier to satisfy my gluttonous side while on this restricted carb diet. Plus, on this diet, I eat good food and never feel hungry. So, snacking is limited, if any at all. |
| Posted by: Big_Ben Mar 31 2008, 04:11 PM |
| Probably never pass but damn good idea. 3 and a half ounces at a time....I can live with that! I think it should be ruled the same way as alcohol, which I may add is totally worse for you than pot. |
| Posted by: CDONDICI Mar 31 2008, 04:27 PM |
| That's great, I hope it passes. |
| Posted by: AdamGrossman Mar 31 2008, 04:30 PM |
| Either this or something similar will eventually pass. We're pretty much halfway to full legalization with medical pot being so easily dispensed, and individual states reforming their own laws. Might as well make it the same all across the board and divert funds to bigger things. |

| States should follow Denver's lead. Within the city limits of Denver, CO, it is legal for persons 21 or older to possess up to 1oz of pot with no reprocussion. http://cannabisculture.com/articles/4570.html |

That's one of those oxymoron laws where you can posess it but it's illegal to buy/sell. It's like "no officer, like I just found it on the side of the road dude 4real!!" |

You'd have to say "a friend gave it to me for free" |

| "of course it's good I bought it from a negro" |
| Posted by: azfittrainer Apr 1 2008, 07:36 PM | ||||
It is, which makes State Laws pointless. You still are at risk of prosecuton by Federal Agencies. |
| Posted by: AdamGrossman Apr 1 2008, 09:06 PM |
| So then why do states have any of their own laws at all then? If federal law overrides state law then it seems pointless to have individual state laws. So by your logic, if one state legalized possesion then the state law enforcement couldn't do anything...but federal law enforcement could still bust their doors down? |
| Posted by: azfittrainer Apr 2 2008, 12:22 AM |
| Federal Law Supersedes State Law. It's the most basic tenant of the U.S. as a centralized government. Otherwise we would basically be 50 sovereign nations, with a loose relationship with one another. States have laws that are designed to govern the needs of the state on a day to day basis. But IF it contradicts a federal law, or tries to dictate any type of trade/commerce between states, Federal Law is superior. |
| Posted by: JW32Hoops Apr 2 2008, 09:09 AM |
| There needs to be some crazy, earth-shattering event for the Feds to come in and trump a state law though. Abortion, for example, is legal in this country (Federal law) but certain individual states have banned it. You won't see the Federal gov't stepping in to say "you need to give these ladies abortions...our law supercedes yours" in one of those states anymore than you'll see the Feds knock the joint outta some dude's mouth on his couch in Denver. |

It's true, it's all true! I'm actually writing this post from my cell in San Quentin. The Feds kicked down my door, knocked the bong outta my hand and told me "shove your medical prescription up your ass...state laws mean nothing!" before carting me off to jail...and I deserve it. |

Seriously, can you really get a med marijuana card just for being a stoner? Also, do you just take you're card into the CVS and say "filler up" when you run out? |
| Posted by: JW32Hoops Apr 5 2008, 05:04 PM | ||
Not just for being a stoner. You need a medical condition that canabis can be helpful for, like chronic pain, migraines, anxiety, etc. Can't get bud at CVS, but you can get them at the medical marijuana dispenseries in Los Angeles, or just grow your own. |

| From the NORML website : "A federal court in Argentina has decriminalized the personal consumption of drugs in that country. According to the court’s ruling, punishing drug users only 'creates an avalanche of cases targeting consumers without climbing up in the ladder of [drug] trafficking.' Last month at a UN meeting in Vienna, Argentina’s Minister of Justice, Aníbal Fernández, said that the policy of punishing drug consumers was a “total failure." |
| Posted by: JW32Hoops Apr 23 2008, 08:53 PM | ||
Here too. I spoke with General Barry McCaffery, former Drug Czar to the Clinton Adminstration and he basically echoed that sentiment to me...that the "war on drugs" isn't solving anything, and that the common drug user isn't worth targeting, as it only causes overcrowding of prisons and taxpayer dollars. |

| Go to this link and send a prewritten email to your state representative. Type in your info and hit "send" and it will send it right to their government email address. You can use it for state legislation also. I've sent emails to the MN Governor and two Senators using this system and one of the senators wrote back and agreed with it, saying they'd vote for industrial hemp cultivation in MN. http://capwiz.com/norml2/issues/alert/?alertid=11280301 |

| One of the main reasons marijuana was made illegal way back in the day (1920-30s) was because of the prohibition movement and Great Depression. Since the government enacted prohibition, they formed a large agency to crack down on the laws they passed in regards to alcohol. So they hired tons of law enforcement agents to track down and arrest people that were making and selling alcohol to the public (i.e. Al Capone and people like him). Once the government realized how big of a failure prohibition was, they decided to legalize alcohol again but put restrictions on it. It was right around this time that people were beginning to experiment with marijuana. Well since the government legalized alcohol, they had a huge government bureaucracy set up with tons of people formerly employed by the government now out of a job since they weren't actively enforcing alcohol laws anymore. Right around this time was the Great Depression, and the last thing the American economy needed was a loss of jobs. So the man who started the anti-MJ campaign (Harry Anslinger) decided to make marijuana the next target in order to keep the bureaucracy and jobs alive, thus boosting the economy post-Depression era. So he spread his bullshit propaganda about it, got a lot of support from sleezy politicians, and they passed laws against it. Then this agency started enforcing and cracking down on marijuana and other illegal drugs. From this arose the DEA. And now we're in the present, where marijuana is becoming more acceptable to people. Notice how the anti-drug campaign commercials against marijuana don't focus on the health problems from it anymore, but moreso talk about laziness and just staying away from the crowd? Because everyone knows MJ is not the harmful, white-woman raping drug Anslinger & Co. made it out to be. |
