I'm trying to cut, and my routine lately is to eat something in the morning before work, i have a snack between lunch, snack after lunch and i'm off to the gym. I have PWO protein shake after the gym once i get home, and dinner later on. so is it a good idea to have a protein shake in the morning AS my breakfast or included into my breakfast? since i'm not able to workout till after work which is about 4pm-5pm i noticed a lot of other journals doing it, but it seems like there a lot of people bulking where i'm just trying to cut my fat off. side question, i had a thread about snacks at night and i had some great responses, but now i'm wondering also, are those snacks for people who are cutting too? ie. the sugar free chocolate pudding, or almonds etc. if it isn't okay, and i were to do some night running before i sleep, is it okay to have a chocolate pudding with a bit of protein mixed in?

Do it! Throw in some raw oats, whey, a piece of fruit for flavor. Breakfast is a good time to eat a fast absorbing protien like whey.

Yeah, you need something fast which is carbs and protein in the morning! If I am not eating egg whites and oatmeal in the early am, I fix a shake up! My fav. is one scoop of vanilla whey, one banana, two table spoons of natural peanut butter, and 1 cup of fat-free milk with alot of ice! Even if you want something bad every once in a while, its good to eat it in the begining of the day, where you would use it for mostly fuel for the day. There is a saying also, "Eat like a king for Breakfast, A prince for lunch, and a Pauper for dinner."

Ultimately what it boils down to is calories consumed vs. calories burned. If you're cutting you need to burn more cals than you take in throughout the day. Within those calories you can balance the macronutrient content to your liking whether it be high protein, low carb, or whatever floats your boat. I'd recommend high protein, medium carb, low fat. Protein at every meal, carbs in the morning and b4 workout, fats at night to keep you full and prevent late night snacking.

the first meal of the day should be the most food intake........big bowl of oats...egg whites...protien in water ....through out the day keep protien high but slowly taper down the carbs by each meal ...the later you are in the day the less carbs you need....play around with it

well I guess ill beef up my breakfast some more, I might just do half the cereal I eat or 1 wheat toast & organic peanut butter with the shake. as far as that sugar-free pudding mixed with some protein I think ill eat half of it with my dinner since it's pretty much all vegetables and if i do running at night ill have the other half.

ido it all the time, during the week, im up at like 430, 5am for work so i just make a shake, a cup of oats and 2 tbsp of natty pb and im ready to go...takes about 2 seconds to put together and eat, on the weekends i have egg whites though, unless im lazy i used to make the eggs in the moring during the week but i had to get up like 45 minutes earlier to be able to cook them and such and i have to lift late so im not able to go to bed till around 10 so i decided to shake it and add some more sleepy time

when I first decided to get in shape and lose weight, I was taking caffeine and ephedra, eventually I started protein and drank one shake in the morning for breakfast and another later after working out (both with water, no milk etc) Anyways, it was great for weight loss so give it a shot for a few weeks. I went from probably 195 -> 165
