| I am competing in the California State bodybuiling National Qualifier on May 24th. I started cutting a week ago and have 10 more weeks to get diced. If I don't win, it wasn't because the other competitors out conditioned me, I promise that. Here are the pics, still working on posing and gotta get a routine going. My chest is definitely not a strong point... dunno what to do about it so i try not to let it get to me. I think my delts overpower it too and isn't helping its cause. |

| U have such a small waist that any additional growth to your lats is going to make your front poses look sick- ab posing is going to be big for you I imagine with those arms and quads I am sure u want to bring up your calves since your legs really over power them It was said already- your chest I would imagine needs to be brought up to match your delts and arms which are parts of you that seem to grow really well. | Dang good job man, your delts are definetly your strength, but what I think is crazy is that you can bench so much and yet your chest does not represent this. Are you benching correctly? Elbows out or are you benching more like a powerlifter back arched using your triceps, lower chest and lats. |

Currently I am 5'8 214lbs bodyfat around 9-10 I would think. I'll update a link to my contest journal in my sig, it has all my stats and I will probably be updating it more frequently as I get closer to the comp. I have never really cut, nor tried to be around 4% bf (my goal for the comp) so I don't know what I will weigh on show day. |

My delts definitely over power my chest, but I think they are pretty proportioned to my arms personally. I work my calves a lot.. prolly 3 days a week and have made some huge progress on them the passed 3 months. Can't figure out why my chest wont grow... genetics i guess. Every chest day I work it just as hard as everything else, and the next day it cramps easily and is always tender so I know its growing but just does so slowly. |

| if your 214 right now at 10% BF thats 21.4lbs of fat.. if you want to be 4% that would be 8.56lbs of fat.. considering you keep all of your muscle etc.. So @ 4% i could see you being around 200lbs. |

Yea, but I am using compounds that are pretty strong, and if I nail my diet it is possible I actually gain some muscle in the next 8 or so weeks. And I am not sure how much water I will lose the last couple days dehydrating, it is all gonna be trial and error at this point as it is my first contest. I want to get below 198 for the contest because I would be a VERY thick light heavyweight, and if I come in around 205 I will be a medium sized heavyweight. Dunno, all guesswork at this point. |

| Quads, delts and arms are sick. Keep plugging away at the chest, hamstrings and back. Everyone has weak points. You are at a great point for 10 weeks out and will get shredded with proper dieting. Legs could be posed better from the back. Learn to squeeze up through the heals to tighten both hamstrings and glutes. The leg kicked back spiking the calf needs to be doing a leg curl against the ground. Reach back when you set your feet and actually feel to make sure the hams and glutes are tight. Keep your feet in close on the front shots not to detract from the upper body. Keep it up! |

The problem with doing that is it takes away the appearance of a smaller waist, which is a great thing to have. but on the ab and thigh it is important. |

| Go for it bro, just get as ripped as humanly possible with maintaining health. The lower you go in weight classes with sparing muscle the better. Are the pics pumped or cold? With 3 weeks till go time. Pull out the stops. Haven't seen the lower body conditioning, but certainly give it your all. Doing a few shows is always good particularly when getting started so you can tweak things show to show and learn. Give 150% these last few weeks! |

I never plan to do anything ridiculous (in my eyes anyway) and have my blood tested a few times a year and so far so good. I honestly think that a lot of pros don't have to abuse substances to get where they are. A lot of it has to do with genetics but mainly work ethic + time and smart cycling. |

Do it. Go see someone to get their opinion on posing. Posing and presentation can make a HUGE difference, particularly when its close. Expect freaks to show up because it often happens regardless of the competition last year. Heck, and you live in Cali too. Your upper body is certainly dialing in nicely. Nice work! | Nice Vap! You have come a long way. Quads are CRAZY thick. Posing is pretty good. Your legs could be posed better on your back shots. Squeeze your hamstrings against the floor and tighten the glutes. Yeah, your upper body certainly hardens up faster, but you can see that you have a little more to lose in the wheels and back. | I actually had a lot of fun, even though I didn't sleep Friday night at all and was nervous the whole day. We didn't start our routines til midnight on Saturday... needless to say I was dead tired. This competition was MUCH tougher than the previous Contra Costas. There were 17 people in the light heavyweight class, meaning we all had to do two call outs which is SO tiring. A good way to tell the competition was a lot tougher was the fact that I placed 2 places above the guy who got 2nd last year. He ended up getting 9th and looked exactly as he did the year before so all that changed was the competitors. I kinda had a bad draw because on the first call out I was in between the Overall winner and the 2nd place winner lol. And as you can conclude, if you are near a well conditioned/developed physique it is going to make you look worse compared to being next to a less conditioned and developed physique. Unfortunately I happened to be sandwiched between the two best lol. The 2nd place light heavy actually competed in a Pro qualifier, the one where Phil Heath earned his pro card. Pretty intense! Majority of these guys were over 30 and have done multiple competitions as I already predicted. I did as expected after seeing the line for the weigh ins. My weight ended up being 191.5, a 26 lbs drop in 7 weeks. I would bet anything that if I dieted for 12 -15 weeks I would have ended up in the top 5 no doubt, but for only dieting for 7 I placed 7 out of 17th which I am not disappointed in what so ever. Again, my goal in this competition was to learn, placing was not important (would be fun to place high but not a priority to me at this point in my journey). It was pretty much as I expected and came away with what I was hoping to achieve, and that was experience. My goal as of now is to lean bulk for 2 years and find a couple competitions at the end of 2010 and get no less than 1st. I will not be competing as a light heavyweight ever again, as my goal is to be much larger so trying to get 1st next year in the light heavy means nothing to me really. Anyway, here are the comparison pictures, I'm wearing the maroon trunks if you can't recognize me. Oh yea, learned another thing about competitions: you look a lot fatter/smaller on stage than you do in person or back stage. Even the top 5 in my class looked SO much better backstage than these pictures, I don't quite understand why but these stage lights are BRUTAL. Live and learn, name of the game at this point. One more thing, I noticed how small my frame actually is next to other similar sized competitors. Muscle mass wise I am holding my own, but my bone structure and frame is smaller. No matter how you did, you still look good up there, not out of place or anything for how short of a time you've been hitting the weights. On top of that placing better than the dude that got 2nd last year is really good. | You learned first hand what type of conditioning is needed to compete and win. Give yourself more than enough time next time to dial in your conditioning. Naw that big guy got like 8th I think but he was damn huge. He weigh in at 201 then was like "fuck" and ran off to drop some weigh, came back at 198 and made it lol... Learned a lot at this show, definitely worth while if you plan on competing ever, don't worry about placing just go in it to learn. | Hey vap, congrats on the first show, a respectable appearance for a first time out.. Obviously your first time is a huge learning experiance and if you take that away from it and apply it next time consider this a success, regardless of where you placed. That being said, I've been there too, competed 4 times now over the past 2 years and have been through everything you have now as well. You can never prepare for who is going to show up at these competitions regardless of what the competitors looked like in previous years. All you can do is bring your personal best to the stage each and every time and use your strengths and hide your weaknesses. The best way to do this is with proper posing, yours needs a lot of work if you expect to battle against close competition and move up in the placings.. The difference a lot of times in a tight show is just in the posing to show your strengths.. Mostly I found your leg positioning just needs to be switched up a bit to show proper sweeps and conditioning.. It's hard as well because in all honesty you probably needed another 4 weeks of dieting to really come in crisp. In my opinion I wouldn't compete until your glutes are striated because you're right conditioning is what wins shows. Lets face it you're not going to be the biggest one out there so use conditioning to make up for it.. This is something I realize now competing at just 22 against guys in their mid 30's no way i can match their size so I need great conditioning and posing to have a chance. I'm impressed with your first showing overall but take all these things just to help you get better.. Stay lean so next year when you diet it will be easier for you, get dry, work on the posing and you're well on your way bro, congrats |
