Baseball Today for Mr. Grossman.

1922—The U.S. Supreme Court ruled organized baseball was primarily a sport and not a business, and therefore not subject to antitrust laws and interstate commerce regulations.

1956—Dale Long went hitless for the Pirates, ending his major league record streak of home runs in eight consecutive games. The Brooklyn Dodgers beat Pittsburgh, 10-1.

1965—Philadelphia’s Richie Allen hit a 529-foot home run over the roof of Connie Mack Stadium off Chicago’s Larry Jackson in the Phillies’ 4-2 victory.

1990—Oakland’s Rickey Henderson broke Ty Cobb’s 62-year-old American League stolen base record, but the Toronto Blue Jays still beat the Athletics 2-1. Henderson’s 893rd steal came in the sixth inning.

So the "no reason but just to talk shit" Drew vs. Reyes comparison is on.

They're both pretty close right now. Almost identical. Reyes has the edge on walks, average, hits, stolen bases by a landslide, and only 20 extra at bats.

HAH! I probably still have Rickey Henderson's rookie card in my mother's attic. His and Jose Canseco. Was a big fan of the A's as a kid. The A's, Rangers (Nolan Ryan specifically) and Astros (what was that pitcher's name from the early 90's?).

Watching the Rays game on tv. I'd be much happier if I were a Rays fan instead of a Twins fan. They're in first place 1.5 games ahead of Boston and tied with the Cubs for the best record in baseball. ohmy.gif
