This basically sums it up Assfit..

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors/post/Af...?urn=mlb,110789

After crash, D-Backs are no longer a team on the rise

Going. Going. Gone, goodbye. Nice of the Arizona Diamondbacks to officially eliminate themselves Thursday in St. Louis — given the fact they've been killing themselves all season. To lose an awful division to the injury-riddled Dodgers, even after the addition of Manny Ramirez, is more than an isolated, wasted opportunity. For all the optimism last season and the first few months of last season produced, this is no longer a team on the rise.

At second base, Orlando Hudson is expected to move on. His heir apparent, Emilio Bonifacio, was shipped to Washington for Jon Rauch, the human torch, who is owed $2 million next year. David Eckstein did nothing to make you think he'll be back. Adam Dunn won't be back. What do you do with Chad Tracy?

What do you do with Mark Reynolds, who produces offensively but has struck out 201 times and committed 34 errors? Can you continue to put up with the bad for the good?

Eric Byrnes has a no-trade contract and said on his own radio show last week that he's not going anywhere. Does that send Conor Jackson back to first base, or does it force a trade for more power?

Chris Young isn't a leadoff hitter and didn't step forward at all this year. Stephen Drew isn't a leadoff hitter either, but was magnificent in the second half of the season and, along with Chris Snyder, was the brightest light among the position players. Justin Upton's season was a waste from a progress standpoint, although the final month was a confidence builder.

Other than that nasty hiccup in late August/early September, the starting pitching was good enough to win, and could be better if Max Scherzer steps into the rotation.

He is this year. I'm not bothered that the D-backs lots, they werent expected to win the NL West, plus they didn't choke with a week left in the season twice, like the Mets

I've never seen a division race as close as the AL Central. Since Chicago and Minnesota's win-loss record is so close, Chicago plays a make-up game today which if they win means they'll play a one game "playoff" with the Twins to determine the AL Central champ.

Yeah good stuff.

I'm sure the Tigers are thrilled to be playing today.

White Sox won yesterday so the Twins are headed to Chicago to determine the AL Central champion. What pisses me off is that the Twins won the season series 10-8 with Chicago, but they're playing this pivotal game in Chicago where the Twins will have no advantage. If the Twins won the season series they should play this game in Minnesota at the Humpty Dump. Fuck it. GO TWINS!!!!!

I'm not sure who to root for this year.

Dodgers - LA sucks
Brewers - who cares
Cubs - who cares, 100 years of sucking
Red Sox - boring without Manny
White Sox - who cares
Twins - boring
Rays - underdog, maybe worth rooting for

Movin you're probably right. I don't know what the Rays/Twins season series looks like, but last time the Twins were in town they split a 4 game series so it'll be interesting.

I'm torn between who to root for this year. On one hand the Rays since this is their first year with a winning record and their first year in the playoffs. And they have Evan Longoria who I'd totally turn queer for. On the other hand the Twins who I've been a fan of for years longer than the Rays. But if the Twins beat the Rays in the ALDS, I can almost guarantee they would go no further than that, while the Rays have a good chance at going all the way. Hell I'll root for both and be happy either way.

I'd like to see a Rays/Cubs World Series. Shut up WillP cuz I know what you're gonna say.

If that happens then I'd love to see the Rays win.

Actually I'm rooting for the Rays. There aren't any annoying fans (any fans for that matter) around here so I'm safe from all the bullshit.

It would be cool to see the Rays beat Pinella too, former manager.

True, but Stephen Drew is still wayyyyy better than Jose Reyes.

rolleyes.gif

He is this year.

Reyes had:

a higher Batting Average
more Hits
more Runs
more RBI
more Stolen Bases
more Walks
and a better On Base Percentage.

So........Drew was better than Reyes this year?

Also, I'm man enough to own up to my teams failures. Totally sucked that they didn't make the playoffs this year. I'm still proud of certain players individual performances (Wright, Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Santana) but the bottom line is, our bullpen was horrible. We flat-out didn't get it done, no excuses.

Joe Mauer already won the AL batting title, but any stats he gets in the pre-playoff playoff game will still count towards his 2008 season. It's his 2nd batting title in 3 years...and he's a catcher. Way to go, Joe.

If Mauer ever catches up to that, then he can take the title of Best Offensive Catcher Ever.

Joe's a stud. Think they'll move him to 1B, 2B or OF to preserve those knees in a couple years, so he can rake for a longer career? Biggio style.

Yeah Mauer is a great player no doubt.

But check out Piazza's 1997 year. Freakin sick for anyone let alone a catcher.

Avg - .362
HR - 40
RBI - 124
Runs - 104
Hits - 201
