NBA starts tomorrow!

I know lots of you guys aren't as into basketball, but I'm a bigtime Nets fan. I think we'll be decent this year, 2nd place in the Atlantic and 6th or 7th in the Eastern Conference if everyone stays healthy.

Posted by: Christoph22123 Oct 29 2007, 11:14 AM
Like the Atlantic is that tough! I am a Knicks fan and Robinson looks SICK. Zach needs to run some suicides though. Yes I know your Nets beat us Firday. Truthfully both teams are quite boring. Nets squeaking by, Knicks trying to figure it out. Boston is fun to watch these days, and I am all about NCAA in March

No, it's not, but the Celtics are gonna be really strong, the Raptors will continue to improve and the Knicks picked up a soft 6' 11" guy to go along with their other soft 6' 11" guy...so maybe that'll pan out too.

Atlantic isn't really that tough, but neither are the Nets, so I'll take what I can get!

Here's to Nenad Kristic and Richard Jefferson staying healthy and the Nets winning 50+ games.

Raptors are doing well. Would love to see Kobe shoved somewhere in the east. Knicks do have a lot of padding down low in the paint for sure. Hurts to see them drenched in sweat not even halfway through the 1 st qtr. The Nets to me are like the Yankees, great team, great players, get them to the big games and they just don't seem to care as much.

Posted by: Will109090 Oct 29 2007, 12:03 PM
Word! I used to play and follow basketball a LOT in middle and high school, but really stopped playing and watching when I got to college.

But I'm looking forward to this season and getting back into it.

I think a lot of that rep is b/c of Vinsanity. He's great for highlights and for getting you 20pts and 5 or 6 reb per game, but not exactly the "tough as nails" type. I would never question JKidd's heart or desire to win though. Being able to watch him play has made all the crappy years I spent as a Nets fan worth it.

Posted by: typeRob Oct 29 2007, 01:08 PM
i used to follow the NBA back in high school like will mentioned. havent been watching it much though. im a philly fan obviously and it just so happens all of our sports teams suck ass, wtf.
youre right the celtics are gonna be good this year. and why is it that bost/new england's teams are all doing good now? dry.gif

For what it's worth, here's the fantasy basketball team I drafted last night

Niagara Balls (Josh, I stole the name from you...it was too good not to)

Dirk Nowitski
Tim Duncan
Vince Carter
Carlos Boozer
Joe Johnson
Kevin Durant
LaMarcus Aldridge
Lamar Odom
David West
Monta Ellis
Richard Jefferson
Stephen Jackson
Marvin Williams
Nenad Krstic

(in the order I drafted them)

I'm pumped...Niagara Balls is gonna be awesome.

I am a big Vinsanity fan, he played tough last year. Can't beat his 10 3pt game or what ever that was. Kid just keeps missing his calling, sick player controls the floor so well. Put it together, you know. I mean they're a smart group and play well. The knicks on the other hand have great talent but play ghetto ball

What do you mean when you say that Kidd "keeps missing his calling"? His calling is to distribute basketballs to folks in a position to score em...IMO. Probably coulda been a good QB too if he could throw a tight spiral.

I know he usually opts for the path of least resistance on the court...settles for jumpers, etc...but I don't think he's that much of a douchebag or "locker-room cancer". He seems pretty affable in the interviews I've seen and seems to get along with his teammates...with Kidd and Jefferson anyway.

Not in the sense that you're taking it, sorry. I mean is he deserves an NBA title. He keeps missing his calling, by just that. I do think he should of taken the job with San Antonio. I was at dinner at the post house and who's at the next table over but Kidd and Popovich. I guess Kidd don't like no steak

Posted by: JW32Hoops Oct 30 2007, 09:01 AM
I remember the "Kidd for Parker" rumors. Woulda been good for Kidd...there's no way he wouldn't have won at least 1 ring on that team. As a Net fan though, I was super-relieved that he stayed. Just watching that guy on TV has made me a better team player.

Posted by: Christoph22123 Oct 30 2007, 07:46 PM
Kidd on the SPURS forget about it, 3 rings easy. By the way when u move out west, it's the Mecca for sport watching. You get better basketball games too, ugh

Posted by: JW32Hoops Oct 31 2007, 10:10 AM
Taking a 2 game parlay tonight boys, wish me luck.

San Antonio (-6) @ Memphis

And the OVER (186) in the Dallas @ Cleveland game.

Risking $20 to win $52.

Wizards? Whoa...didn't even think about that. All the talk has been about Chicago, but I could see Washington, because they'd be able to send Agent Zero to LAL. I hope he comes to the East, no matter what team. It's tough, cuz I want the Nets to have the smoothest sail possible, but I want the balance of power shifted to the East.

Close game for the Nets last night, solid win. Too bad it took away 75% of the fans at the Devils game. How hockey stays afloat, I have no idea.

Why is Zach Randolph chubby? Why is ANYONE in the League chubby? That pisses me off more than anything. You get paid millions of dollars for a profession that depends on your body. I'd be personally insulted if I were an owner/GM/etc if my guys weren't in tip-top shape.

Richard Jefferson is a BEAST right now, dropping 26ppg and shooting 98% from the line. cool.gif

Out of 82 games, if VC and RJeff missed 8 games a piece....it wouldn't be great, but I'd be able to deal with it...could be worse. As for Kidd and his knee...I've been worried about that for 2 years. However, last year he alleviated my concern by AVERAGING A TRIPLE DOUBLE in the playoffs (you're a Raptors fan, you remember that wink.gif ) and by playing so damn well in the Olympic qualifiers. He's the man, plain and simple.

4-1 start for the nets aint bad

but chicago is 1-4
beginning of the season usually means nothing
but ALOT of entertaining games

i truly think that after being stuck watching baseball (zzzzzzzzzzzzzz) all summer
that these bball and even nhl games are SOO much more exciting
i didn't know what i was missing all summer

and now its back and biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Word AK....first 5 games isn't going to mean the world, but it's a tone-setter and I'd rather be 4-1 than 1-4 so I'll take it. As for baseball...that's my shit, love me some baseball, but I'm happy it's basketball season. Haven't been watching enough the past couple years and now I'm getting back into it.

Check out the SICK kmart link in my sig.

I think the raps will be second or third in the east this year. although it was a playoff series to late it was great watching the raps rape the nets the other night. boston is looking like they are playing really well together which is bad news for the teams who share the division with them.

the entire thing with boston wasn't really if they would dominate the east (which they will to some degree)
it is whether they can stay away from a key injury, and if depth (or lack of) will be able to take them thru 82 games + any playoff games

I don't see them topping the east
but that is because I am a raps fan (biast)

they pretty much rely on each guy of the big 3 to score 20 points per game (60 points total)
then off the bench they only have one guy who can constantly pop in 8-10ppg
their other 2 starters are only averaging smthin like 13 points between them

altho right now, all healthy, it is not a problem
once a key (or even not so key) injury occurs, they have nobody who can step up

ya chicago is REALLY below expectations this season

the way I see it is that Chicago last year finished 3rd or 4th, anyways they were a top 4 team in the east, SUPER young and super talented, and were highly expected to improve and contest for top spot of the east this year

then all the rumors started saying Kobe is going to be traded to Chicago
the players probably feel like their worth $1 and feel betrayed
since they had so much up side then the talk of Kobe comes along and all of their names are on the trading block

I would be a little peeved to, the team is doing fantastic, then suddenly I might get traded away for some jordan wannabe

He got in an argument with Isiah Thomas on a team flight cuz Isiah wanted to bring Steph off the bench. Steph didn't like that idea and blackmailed Isiah, saying something like "He can't do that to me. I've got so much shit on him. He wants to take me down but I can take him down first. Yeah, I'm loving Boston and their Big Three!!! Damn Rockets losing to Spurs lastnight. Rockets other Center from Argintina is sick. Him and manu ginoblie are from there i think. Also while in Charlotte I see all the Bobcats everyday. Like I was walking from Court back to Hearst tower and Reymond Felton Parked his car when I was walking on the sidewalk and Sais whats up. Also Gerald Wallace from the Kings was getting gas right beside me at a station. Sean may goes to SunSet club all the time. Some others get their haircut at Modern Salon and Spa too.

Pistons rooks are going to make some noise and let the starters be rested for playoffs. Watch for Rodney Stuckey, Amir Johnson and Cheick Samb to give a much-needed boost to this ball club, not to mention Jason Maxiell and Jarvis Hayes. Aaron Afflalo started his first NBA game when Rip was out for the birth of his son and did well, so he might get some minutes this season, too. I hope they play the shit out of the bench all season, even if it means sacrificing a few wins. It will help down the stretch to have those guys acclimated and have the starters fresh.

LeBron James is a freak of nature. I've played basketball my whole life, been a fan of the game my whole life and I've never seen anything like him.

30.9ppg, 7.8rpg, 7.7apg, .492fg%

SICK!

Posted by: alexoc949 Nov 24 2007, 04:33 PM
i know it, 37 12 and 12 today in a 111 - 108 win over Toronto

James, who scored six points in the final minute to seal the win, had 12 rebounds and 12 assists for the 13th triple-double of his career.

3 this season, at his rate he's bound to double what was previously his career total

Posted by: Christoph22123 Nov 24 2007, 06:26 PM
Watching James play in person is sick. How he moves for his size. The game is so much better live, you see how small the court is and how freaking big these guys are, setting up plays. Love bball live.

Yeah Dwight Howard is sick (keep lifting and his shoulders are going to be in the paint even when he's outside of it), I also Like Andrew Bynum I think give him more starting time, and he's going to be a great center.

Leandro Barbosa that guy has progressed so much, he's under looked big time, I think he deserves a trip to the All star Game

Marion was disgruntled. They filled some needs with Shaq, provided he stays healthy, etc. Phoenix was lacking interior defense and Shaq will be a nice compliment to Stoudemire down there. He'll also be standing right on the block when Nash drives the lane and draws defenders...catching easy layups and dunks all night long. And by "all night long" I mean about 25 minutes a night.

Posted by: ANIMAL333 Feb 7 2008, 12:15 AM
I wouldn't refer to Shaq as "The diesel" anymore. The bottom line is that he is ran down and needs to retire soon. I feel this was a bad idea for both teams. The Heat are losing there only decent inside presence, and the Suns lost one of there best players.

Posted by: Regulator Feb 7 2008, 12:44 AM
On the surface this could be a great trade for the heat. Getting rid of shaqs pay and getting a former all star. Now if they can continue this tank job they might add beasley. If you look at shaqs numbers they were going down pretty quick. Now we have to wait and see if the mavs make a move for kidd, talk about stirring the pot in the west.

I believe it was a bad idea for the Suns to pick up Shaq. First of all, he's never healthy anymore and charges a hefty price. Second, the Suns are a fast-paced team, and Shaq is anything BUT fast. I believe he is going to hurt them in the long run.

Posted by: thomez Feb 7 2008, 10:37 PM
Shaq has no place on that team whatsoever.

If the Suns wanted to get rid of Marion they could have found a MUCH better deal somewhere after shopping him around a little while.

I still think the Shaq-to-the-Suns move was a positive one. I heard Mike D'Antoni on the radio today and he said "Didn't the Showtime Lakers from the 80's have a 40 year old HOF center who was trailing the break every night? If Shaq gets the rebound and delivers the outlet pass...he doesn't have to catch up to us, we're already off and running."

Posted by: derek99512 Feb 8 2008, 01:33 AM
marion has wanted out for over a year

Posted by: AK87 Feb 9 2008, 12:33 PM
for the heat this is a great trade
they are no longer obligated to 40 million dollars for over the next 2 seasons to shaq
they only owe Marion 17 million for next year if he chooses (players option)
Miami can build off this trade while the suns are hoping for the best

I hope Shaq can deliver, he would be the only player in history to play on 4 teams and take each team to the finals

Yes, you're the only one. Dude took off from damn near the FT line, off two feet, got crazy height and was up high enough and paralel enough to throw the ball straight through, which was most likely unintentional, but absolutely amazing. Plus, the showmanship was great too, which is what the dunk contest had been lacking in years past. I think the creativity and showmanship of Howard and Green were awesome.

All his dunks were awesome. Superman wasn't a lay up, cuz the ball went straight down...DH is just otherwordly...redefining shit. That display was as impressive as Vinsanity in '00.

Dwight Howard is the answer to the question "How good would Shawn Kemp have been if he didn't have 7 bastard children and a drinking problem?"

Well if you consider Melo a "big man" along with Amare and Howard, then you gotta throw LBJ in there too, but I think he and Melo are more 2-3 guys. Definitely right about the resurgence of quality big men. Carlos Boozer is probably who you were thinking about. Dudes a beast.

Shaq is ready to go tonight...........

"I'm going to be looking to get out like Randy Moss and Terrell Owens," he said Tuesday after going through his final workout before making his debut with the Suns on Wednesday night against his old team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

The prospect of the 7-foot-1, 325-pound O'Neal, at age 35, fitting in with the high-octane Suns has been ridiculed across much of the NBA.

The Lakers' Phil Jackson, O'Neal's former coach, said Shaq's role would be "taking the ball out of bounds and waiting for the other team to get back."

"He's a jokester, and that's funny, very funny," Shaq said without smiling. "Ha-ha. Very funny."

That was a Hey, well give you guys another shot...come to our house....Now get the Fuck outta here...royal ass beatin..

And what a time it is to be a Boston fan
3 Superbowl rings
2 World Series rings
1 NBA Championship

In just how many years? Pretty rediculous.

i wanted the lake show to win only because boston winning is a prime example of buying a championship in the offseason. garnett, pierce and allen are almost a whole all star starting lineup. i wanted to see a team like the hornets or something win. of course i would have prefered to see the raps win it biggrin.gif sad.gif

Yeah, Lebrons antics and acting really suprised me in the Cleveland series. Someone as good as him really shouldnt look so pathetic.

Team USA staying perfect through the first 3 Olympic preliminary games versus Canada, Turkey, and Lithuania. Game against Russia is on ESPN2 tonight at 3am EST and I think it'll be replayed at 7pm EST.

http://www.nba.com/usabasketball/

LOVING the team we've put together this year.

Point Guards
Jason Kidd
Chris Paul
Deron Williams

Big Men
Dwight Howard
Carlos Boozer
Chris Bosh

Swingmen
LeBron James
Kobe Bryant
Carmelo Anthony
Dwayne Wade

3-point shooter off the bench
Michael Redd

Defensive Stopper off the bench
Tayshaun Prince

http://www.usabasketball.com/news.php?news_page=2008MSNTRoster

If the big men stay healthy, we should be unstoppable. J-Kidd (undefeated all time in international play) is the ultimate facilitator, and will get guys open shots in good spots, which should mean assloads of offense for us, since everyone on the team can score a ton. When Chris Paul and Deron Williams come in, it'll be a change of pace (and a level of talent) that the international players won't be able to keep pace with.

Plus, our swingmen are ridiculous. Dwight Howard is a beast...watch how many alley oops he catches from Chris Paul, J-Kidd, etc. The team appears focused on defense from the outset, which bodes well for our gold medal chances.

Team USA should just be the Boston Celtics.

Not the prettiest display, but a 20 point win is a 20 point win. D-Wade lookin awesome!

Reminds me of "Shaq-apulco" from Cribs...so sick.

USA Basketball got a scare from Australia the other day, only beat em by 9. Just terrible shooting all around.

Hopefully Kidd will be able to play D on some of the younger international PG's and we'll be all set to cruise toward Gold.

True, but im sure Dwight Howard isn't exactly nervous to face Bogut. Not sure if the same could be said vice versa. Bogut is OK...Howard is a BEAST.

Team USA got it done in pool play, and now so far in the Medal Round. http://www.nbcolympics.com/basketball/news/newsid=239730.html#u+s+rebounds+from+slow+start. Looks like the "Redeem Team" is aptly named. We get the winner of Greece/Argentina next I think.

USA is going to rape Argentina, and then we're going to rape whomever we play in the finals.

ever heard any of his rap music. pretty funny shit.

im looking forward to seeing chris bosh and jermaine oneal playing together. especially if bargnani keeps improving. calderon at the point finally. we had two starting point guards for a whole season but finally have it sorted out. tj ford is definatly one of the quickest players in the whole league for sure but his back injury started getting worse. it should be a fucking barn burner to be sure.

Been a while since I checked this thread...haven't been online as much lately.

.......but, TEAM USA GOT IT DONE! Order is restored.

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/basketball/columns/story?columnist=sheridan_chris&page=DreamRedeem-080825

They did it while being unselfish and playing tough defense. Same way all championship teams get it done.

Here's to hoping LBJ will bring the Brooklyn Nets to the promised land in 2010!!!

Yea, he got that one just because he is Ron Artest. I think it pissed him off though which is cool because he sank a three right after that to pretty much seal the win.

Rockets are going to be scary good on defense once Battier is back in the lineup.

iverson to detroit for billups and mcdyess. i think denver wins this trade even though A.I is still good

and toronto is looking solid this year and they see detroit on wednesday so we will see how the new detroit team will look

Posted by: Regulator Nov 3 2008, 06:26 PM
For right now this trade looks pretty bad for detroit. But this is going to let stucky log alot of minutes this year and will give them some cap space next year since AI is on a one year deal.
