R-ALA vs ALA

I've been reading alot about the benefits of ALA and I was wondering if anyone had tried both ALA and R-ALA (separately). I know R-ALA is more effective at lower doses and I was thinking about 600mgs a day (200/3x), but for 10 bucks less I can get the ALA and take 1800mgs a day (600/3x), which equates to roughly 900mgs R-ALA and 900 mgs S-ALA, and the ALA will last twice as long. Does anyone know which would be better? I'm really just wanting the vascularity increase (and maybe a little more tone). I tired NO2 for 3 months and it gave me great pumps and vascularity in the gym, but on non-workout days... nothing. On OX right now (day 10, so we'll see how that works). Basically, if "hemodilators" don't give me the vascularity, do you think this might.

i noticed no difference between r-ala and higher dosages of ala, and now im dropping both totally and just sticking to lemon juice and vinegar, to see if they really did much at all.

lemon juice and vinegar?

does vinegar actually do anything?
An old trainer of mine told me to take a shot of apple cider vinegar every night before bed, pre-contest.

but he never told me why.

I just wanted to echo that I've never seen any benefit from one type over the other. Both worked the same. Layne/str8flexed has a great article on this, and in it he quotes a study that showed no difference at all as far as overall "what lipoic acid does" between the two types.

As far as vascularity goes, probably the best thing to do would be to cut back some bodyfat. Assuming you're of somewhat normal genetics and aren't on things that can hinder vascularity (I think some ADD/ADHD drugs like ritalin or adderall do, for example), that'd be the easiest. Other than that, you may give niacin/niacinamide a try. Some say cayenne pepper makes them a little more vascular as well.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and ordered the standard ALA (save some cash). About the vascularity, bodyfat isn't a big issue. If i did lower it more I know it'd be better, but throughout the day my arms go psycho. One minute all my veins are bulging, the next you can't see them. Who knows. Does anyone know if temperature can affect blood flow. On cold days, my pumps usually suck and energy is low. Is it just me or does anyone else notice this trend?

Sure, heat will increase blood flow.

There is a bit of data on vinegar/acetate and glucose disposal. Sodium acetate was actually about twice as effective as acetic acid (vinegar), though.

I think citrate is best consumed as a salt (Mg Citrate for instance) than the acid (as would be found in lemon juice), as well.

Ok, I read this thread yesterday and figure "what the hell, I'll add vinegar to post routine". I added 2oz cider vinegar to 32 oz crystal light about 2 hours before bed. This was about 30min after workout. About 2Am I work up with the worst damn night sweats ever. There was a full body inprint on my sheets and I actually showered 'cause I felt so disgusting.

Coincidence or is there something here? blink.gif

-- Loki has always personally used ALA only for anti-oxidant purposes...
-- Loki has never used citric acid or vinegar for glucose-disposal purposes, and prefers other compounds for said task, although he does like putting mustard on a lot of things, so perhaps he does get some benefit from it after all...
