Sorry for the late reply.

Good news is we have lots of friends and family. People have been really helpful through all this. We are staying at a friends house right now and will be moving into a house we will be renting out for who knows how long in a couple of weeks when it becomes available. Our house is pretty much a complete loss as it turns out but we don't know what the city will do and are in limbo on what to do about it. We really just want to get out from under it and move on with life.

Over 95% of the basement walls/foundation on the front of the house caved in and a big 40% chunk of the right side of the basement wall/foundation has also caved in. The left side of the house's foundation is currently bowing inward and the back of the house's foundation has a long crack running the entire length. Basically the entire foundation needs to be completely replaced and we have been getting many estimates on it's replacement and the lowest figures we've been getting were around $35,000. On top of that all the electrical on the first floor and basement needs replaced as the wiring was older and had a cloth outer shielding and the outlet panel needs moved and replaced as it was in the basement. Plumbing needs replacing as well. Walls on the first floor will need replacing as well as all the cabinets and counter tops in the kitchen. The figures to repair our house will cost as much or more than the house is worth. The city may determine that our house just needs to be demolished before we can get any permits. If buy outs occur we wont know for well over a year and they will probably only buy out homes in the 100 year flood zone which we aren't even in the 500 year flood zone. And nope, insurance will not cover anything because we didn't have flood insurance. Why didn't we have flood insurance? Because we weren't suppose to be in a flood zone and were advised by even the insurance people that we didn't need to waste money on something we would never need!! HAH!

As for possessions we have a 10x10 storage unit we have put everything that we were able to recover and there is still plenty of room to spare in it. Powerlifting related the power rack is completely rusted out along with the barbell. The straps and cuffs to do hanging leg raises were completely ruined. Lost my belt, shoes, all the knee/wrist wraps, mini/light/avg bands, entire westside dvd collection, gym bag, and supplements. I did pull up the weights and they have a little rust on them but wont know to what extent until I get a chance to wash them off and scrap off the little, hopefully little, rust that I can see on them then repaint.

As for Roids, a person can not realize what it is like to go through a major disastor unless it happens to you. Go into your house and look around. Now remove 95% or more of everything you own including your house. This is what has happened to me and many others. I always hear about people getting all this money after something like this or Katrina. People getting money from FEMA, Red Cross, Local and State governments and so on. What you really don't realize is that money doesn't even come close to repay what that person has lost. They refer you to the SBA to get a low interest loan for the rest. For me I don't qualify for any assistance other than FEMA and the SBA because of my income. FEMA's assistance won't cover 1/4th of the damage and losses.

Enough of that. Here's some pictures taken. Got some pictures during the flood, second major mound of trash that spanned across both lots (yes we've had three mounds just like that and that is my hand back there), the hole on the side of the house and the front of the house, and some muck.

We'll be okay. At least we still have ourselves, our minds, and our jobs. Many people have lost one or all of those. And TRUST me the next house we get will be on top of a fucking mountain!!

Holy fucking shitballs man, so sorry to hear about your situation.

So what do you mean by a 100 year flood zone? Insurance isn't going to cover ANYTHING from inside the house, or the house itself??? Has the state of Iowa mentioned if they are going to help out people that didn't have flood insurance??

A 100 year flood has about a 1% chance of ever happening each year. The 500 year flood has about a 0.2% chance of ever happening. And it exceeded that 500 year flood range which is 26ft and hit 31.5 ft. Nobody would have ever thought that it would have done that. BTW, it's never exceded into the 500 year flood area before.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100-year_flood

City doesn't know what they will do. I was told by the city manager's office that if buy outs occur they will most likely buy out people in the 100 year flood area. Very few in the 500 year area and most likely not outside of that. It is also determined by FEMA on who gets bought out because it is the majority of their money that does the buying out.

I was also told the city might also decide to just buy out smaller sections of the 100year area and provide flood prevention tactics like larger leveys. Either way looks like I'll be stuck with the mortgage and a totalled house.

Here's a map of the river, 100 year flood area, 500 year flood area, and where the water actually went with this flood.

Yep, something that was never supposed to happen. Just something we'll have to deal with and move on now. We've decided that we are definitely not going to rebuild anything there and already have lined up a place to rent and potentially buy in the future thanks to some really good people. Only thing we have to figure out now is some type of deal with Wells Fargo. Either a Dead in Leu of Foreclosure, a foreclosure, or some type of massively modified loan.

Hopefully, they'll take a deed in lieu. But, that might be tough since the house is basically worthless in its current state. Hopefully, they'll work something out for you.

In my previous post, I wasn't making light of your situation. I was just noting how much different the response was of the people in your community to this disaster (rolling up sleeves and helping each other), versus New Orleans.

Isn't your land worth something? I mean won't anyone want to buy it and build a house on it?
