Hey guys whats up...gotta question for ya. Currently, my wife is following the South Beach Diet (I know, I know....tried to advise her otherwise but oh well) and she has a question in regards to food substitution. The question is as a pre-bedtime meal, can lowfat Ricotta cheese be substituted for cottage cheese to keep the body's metabolism at an optimum level and keep the body in an anabolic state? I really have no answer for her on this one other than the primary ingredients....meaning the main or more prominent ingredient in cottage cheese is milk which means it is an ideal pre bed time meal due to its digestion rate. The main or prominent ingredient in Ricotta cheese is first whey, then milk. Any help or input will be greatly appreciated.

tell her if she is on the zone diet, and she has gone over or near her limit (20 carbs daily), then she should only have ricotta before bed. if she is ahead of the game, she can indulge in cottage cheese, cause cottage cheese has slightly more carbs... You really dont want to go over the carb limit for the day as it will kick you out of ketosis and ruin all advantages of that diet.
