[FONT=Arial] My ex-boyfriend has been working-out for a long time... & has cycled with creatine for many years.. I can't think of the brand right now that he's been using for the past 8-10 months... I have a question:

Should creatine create lower back pain?

He couldn't run when on it... he's been off of it for about 1 month or so... and now he can run forever... and fast. he was also using Muscle Milk (1 shake per day, usually) and he quit using that too b/c it has creatine in it as well..

Can anyone explain that? ...or what else it could be from?... huh.gif
when creatine usually increases physical performance and everything.

muscle milk doesnt have creatine in it.

creatine isnt the reason hes been having back pain.

Lower back pain or kidney pain? The two are often hard to tell apart.

If it continues or gets worse, a doctor visit seems in order.

i dont see how creatine could be linked to any pain except headache or nausea from all the sugar and sweeteners that are in the drink mixes. the pill form which is creatine ethyl ester is a lot better IMO.

i don't know of a muscle milk protein mix that has creatine in it. some muscle tech stuff claims to, but its such a small amount that is far from effective that it's only for the purpose of putting some flashy over exagerated labels.

read some of the old pinned threads or articles on creatine and you'll see that it's doubtfull that the back pain is related to taking it.

you're a chick right?

Was he drinking enough water? You need to drink a lot of water when taking creatine. He may have been getting cramps due to this problem.

Word if it's down to creatine, it's most likly gonna be his kidney's. Tell him to start drinking about a gallon and a half of water per day, if that does'nt help, he need's to go see the doctor.

As a safety measure, he should have standard blood test done to check BUN and creatinine levels. Elevated levels are a sign of renal problems.

lol this thread reminds me of my ex girl friend..

girlfriend: Do you take more then protein?

me:yes creatine

girlfriend: oh my god thats whats in steroids!!

me:your an idiot

Muscle milk if you look at the ingredent list doesn not once say CREATINE. As long as hes drinkin 1-2 gallons of water aday hes fine. Id go to the doctor about the pain tho cus clearly something is wrong.

muscle milk does have EndoCreatineTM not sure if this can increase creatinine leavls like creatine monohygrate ect. you said he cycles creatine , one of my friends knows some one who messed up his kindneys by never cycling off it, i guess he did not drink alot of water either thou.

you dont have to cycle it. just dont be a dumbass and drink 12 oz of water a day and take 5 grams with every meal

Aaawwww how cute...reunion time hahaha, just jokin

Definitely get bloodwork done if the aching is still present. Creatine can have negative effects on the kidneys if taken in large doses without enough water.

Plus, are you sure he is not taking anything else other than just protein and creatine? I'm implying steroids or anything of that nature, I'm just saying that there are a lot of other things in the supplement world that might cause these types of pains, but creatine, at least in my experience, usually won't cause constant kidney pain (I use Storm creatine, 3 scoops workout/cardio days). Maybe he is taking too many other supplements and his body can't handle the intake. Does he take Vitamins? Single or Multi? Omega fatty acids? Amino acids? Vitamins especially will cause harsh kidney pains if too many are taken and he is not drinking enough water...that I can account too.
