This unique liver supplement is aimed at promoting a healthy liver by providing powerful antioxidants to combat the negative effects of free radicals and toxins. NAC and Milk Thistle are combined to provide a wide range of protection for those on hepatoxic anabolic cycles or for others who are just generally worried about their liver's health. If you may be exposed to extreme conditions, due to supplementation or otherwise, give your liver the best protection possible. Caffeine is the most widely consumed psychoactive substance in the western world. In addition to being a CNS stimulant, it has a variety of peripheral effects relating to muscle contraction, diuresis, gastric secretion, and lipolysis. More....Universal's MCT Power™ is the ultimate energy liquid concentrate for serious strength and endurance athletes looking for maximum nutritional and ergogenic support. Studies have shown that Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT's) are extremely useful to athletes because: they are a readily utilizable energy source; mobilize body fat stores; increase metabolic rate; and spare lean muscle mass. The super-emulsified MCT's supplied in this revolutionary formula have double the energy value of carbohydrates and protein, while supplying a quick source of pure energy. By allowing your body to harness even more power during training, you can reach higher levels of muscular perfection and overall performance. It is perfect for bodybuilders on low carbohydrate, high protein diets. MCT Power™ is all natural and has a delicious tropical punch flavor.

 | QUOTE (shpongled @ Feb 19 2004, 03:30 PM) | | QUOTE (Spencer Ang @ Feb 19 2004, 03:53 AM) | | QUOTE (shpongled @ Feb 17 2004, 01:29 PM) | I am all for use of calcium or sodium citrate, maybe some mag citrate, and/or sodium bicarbonate... at least as a pre-exercise buffer.
I'm still not sure about the safety of a lot of potassium supplementation, because blood levels are tightly regulated, have you looked into this? |
We are talking about gram dosages with regards to buffering. If i recall correctly, high dose of calcium will create kidney stones and theres a big thread addressing calcium over at Avant. Magnesium used this way will likely have problems as well while sodium is a no brainer. Potassium is the better choice and ODing on potassium is almost impossible. Prolangtum can attest to that. We talked about it over at Avant quite a while ago. As for the citrate form, Torsten over at CEM (he is the who started this buffering thing) says its better than bicarbonate. David, you will help mike to source this, wont you? |
Well yeah, Torsten started it within this circle, but it's been in the literature since at least the late 80's. If I recall correctly he recommended some variety, and I would tend to agree. Here's what I think: Calcium citrate - 22% calciumWe should be taking at least a gram of calcium a day in supplement form, if on a high protein diet. Maybe more, but that is a good minmal level. So this would be 4.5 g calcium citrate. Magnesium citrate - 16% magnesiumTo balance out the calcium in a 1:2 ratio, 500 mg magnesium. So there's 3 g magnesium citrate. Sodium citrate - 26% sodium, I think At least 1 g of sodium will be fine. So that is 4 g sodium citrate. Sodium is over-demonized, especially during exercise, and even more so if you are drinking a lot of water. I am all for high sodium consumption around exercise. If anything I would go higher. Potassium citrate - 38% potassium, I think This is the one I don't know much about. For one this will counteract the possibility of calcium stones, although I don't consider that to be a likelihood. I am certain that more than 10 g potassium citrate daily wouldn't be a good idea. I would opt for 1 g potassium, which would be 2.5 g potassium citrate. So this leaves: 4.5 g calcium citrate4 g sodium citrate3 g magnesium citrate2.5 g potassium citrate...That's still only 14 grams but it is a starting point. But the point is you'll probably have to use a combination, especially if you don't want to use a high dose of sodium (which, in actuality, I think is probably the safest option). Anyway, all the potassium citrate supplements I've seen have been in tablet form which obviously isn't feasible, so a bulk powder would have to be picked up. I don't believe I've ever seen a sodium citrate supplement, so the case would be the same there. Will see what I can do. I'm also going to look into the safety/health issues. |
This whole issue is very tricky. I am sure you know about high amount of calcium inhibiting synthesis of the active form of Vitamin D (1,25-(OH)-vit D). But thats for another thread and i wouldnt want to go there again after the one over at Avant . I think we will agree supplementing an unusually high amount of any mineral isnt a good idea so yes, a combination will be better. Torsten's recommendations for his athletes (10g each of Ca, Mg and K) looks good to me although it could do with some tweaking (lowering the Ca, Mg and adding in some Na). Also, why a 1:2 ratio for calcium and magnesium? I thought you propose a 1:1 ratio? And i think the amount of potassium can be higher, relative to sodium as most people get more Na in their diets anyway (remember we are adding this to our diets). He get his athletes to increase their intake of potatoes (for the potassium i think) as well! So with these suggestions, we can play around with the numbers: 4.5g of calcium citrate (1g of elemental calcium) 6g of magnesium citrate (1g of elemental magnesium, based on the 1:1 ratio) 4g of sodium citrate (1g of sodium, i am still not comfortable with high sodium intake if you ask me ) 5g of potassium citrate (2g of potassium) Maybe mike can sell this as a mixture in bulk powder form.

For the Avant Labs products, I don't think we'll be carrying the betas.
