I am all for use of calcium or sodium citrate, maybe some mag citrate, and/or sodium bicarbonate... at least as a pre-exercise buffer.

I'm still not sure about the safety of a lot of potassium supplementation, because blood levels are tightly regulated, have you looked into this?

I doubt I will pick the oil up as a bulk material, just due to the mess/weight of it.  Is there a company you are looking for in particular?

Ultimate Nutrition has a pure MCT product I think, not sure about the quality though

I believe there's a very popular one made by Twinlab.

We will have more nootropics in the coming months. However, aniracetam/oxiracetam aren't likely.

We are talking about gram dosages with regards to buffering.

If i recall correctly, high dose of calcium will create kidney stones and theres a big thread addressing calcium over at Avant. Magnesium used this way will likely have problems as well while sodium is a no brainer.

Potassium is the better choice and ODing on potassium is almost impossible. Prolangtum can attest to that. We talked about it over at Avant quite a while ago.

As for the citrate form, Torsten over at CEM (he is the who started this buffering thing) says its better than bicarbonate.

David,

you will help mike to source this, wont you? wink.gif

David,

Well yeah, Torsten started it within this circle, but it's been in the literature since at least the late 80's. If I recall correctly he recommended some variety, and I would tend to agree. Here's what I think:

Calcium citrate - 22% calcium

We should be taking at least a gram of calcium a day in supplement form, if on a high protein diet. Maybe more, but that is a good minmal level. So this would be 4.5 g calcium citrate.

Magnesium citrate - 16% magnesium

To balance out the calcium in a 1:2 ratio, 500 mg magnesium. So there's 3 g magnesium citrate.

Sodium citrate - 26% sodium, I think

At least 1 g of sodium will be fine. So that is 4 g sodium citrate. Sodium is over-demonized, especially during exercise, and even more so if you are drinking a lot of water. I am all for high sodium consumption around exercise. If anything I would go higher.

Potassium citrate - 38% potassium, I think

This is the one I don't know much about. For one this will counteract the possibility of calcium stones, although I don't consider that to be a likelihood. I am certain that more than 10 g potassium citrate daily wouldn't be a good idea. I would opt for 1 g potassium, which would be 2.5 g potassium citrate.

So this leaves:
4.5 g calcium citrate
4 g sodium citrate
3 g magnesium citrate
2.5 g potassium citrate

...That's still only 14 grams but it is a starting point. But the point is you'll probably have to use a combination, especially if you don't want to use a high dose of sodium (which, in actuality, I think is probably the safest option).

Anyway, all the potassium citrate supplements I've seen have been in tablet form which obviously isn't feasible, so a bulk powder would have to be picked up. I don't believe I've ever seen a sodium citrate supplement, so the case would be the same there. Will see what I can do. I'm also going to look into the safety/health issues.

Are you ever going to sell the MRM meal replacement as just a straight powder, instead of in packets? I like sometimes tweaking the cals, etc., and also, maybe a 5lb container would be cheaper (not that $1 per packet is exactly expensive). No biggie, just curious.
