Alright listen i am 26, 6'1", about 192 and in pretty good shape. I dont have a problem w/ stamina or strength but my joints are killing me. My family has a history of arthritis at an early age and each year it gets worse and worse. i have already had surgey on my knee when i was 14 now they both suck. i try to stay in good shape hoping to skip my familys curse of medical problems. But it is really hard for me to do cardio two days in a row b/c my knees and ankles hurt so bad the next day. I am just wondering if there are any vitamins or supps i can take to keep my joints healthy, that would rock, also if it would be beneficial to work out the muscles and ligaments around my problem areas to give extra strength and support please let me what to do? Thanks, zkruse

I feel your pain bro...have a lot of joint problems too. Don't know if this will help or not, but I put a link at the bottom for arthritis info off of WebMD's website. They have a pretty extensive list of supps you can take to maybe help you out. Couple suggestions (but you've probably tried these): 1) Get a really good pair of shoes and/or get a good insert. Try to find a store where the people actually know what they are doing. Place I go to, called Metro Run & Walk, can tell what type of shoe you need just by watching you walk back and forth. They even showed me a different way to lace and tie my shoe strings to give me better ankle support. Don't waste time going to Finish Line of Footlocker. It's worth the extra money you may have to spend at the small mom & pop type store than the big franchise stores. 2) Vary your cardio. I had to quit using the treadmill cause it tore my knees to shreads. I stick with eliptical runners now. They give you a killer leg workout and you can get going just as fast on those as you can a treadmill, plus you don't get the stress on the joints near as much. Hope this helps. WebMD - Arthritis

Your priorites in terms of joint supplementation, IMO, should be 1)Glucosamine 2)Chondroitin 3)MSM 4)Omega-3 fatty acids (like fish oil) 5)Lots of antioxidants

I don't know a whole lot about chondroitin but my understanding is that the mechanism of action is quite similar to glucosamine and it's just more expensive. I don't think it's really needed. I wouldn't use COX inhibitors chronically if you can avoid it. Some of the supps I recommend (such as fish oil) are going to do this to an extent in the first place, but are still worth taking because of the many benefits (some related to COX inhibition, some not).

First of all, I would not suggest a lot of antioxidant. It will bring your side effect you take a lot of them. Fish oil is something you should be careful too. For someone with normal blood pressure, blood is normal, and not too fat which may cause some disease on heart. you don't really need fish oil. It will low your blood pressure, clean your blood, disolve body fat too. For knee pain, I don't really think there are a lot of supplement can helps. Try to change the exercise you are doing now. If you jogging, use some machine instead of really hitting ground by your feet. Don't use too much heavy stuffs on your knee, ankles etc. But, I would suggest certain of stretch, so your joints will get used to it and become more flexible. There are some red and strong smelly oil in asian store, which is used for warm up mucles and bones, you may try to find it. All herbs. If your knee is swallen because of moving, use ice pad. If your knee is swallen because of the muscle pay, use hot water pad or heated pad. Good luck!

Try Releve http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/mhp/releve.html My dad had great success in fighting his joint pain. He also suggested it to 2 friends who also had good things to say about it. It is a COX-2 Inhibitor so you might want to keep that in mind prior to trying it. Good Luck! linlhutz
