It's really hard to give advice for such a generic problem... other than eating right, keeping a regular sleep schedule should help.

Just get out to the gym man! For some people showing up is half the battle. Besides, once you go a couple of times you'll get back into it. I find it addictive, especially once you see results.

Just like me to try to find the easy way out... Are you getting your vitamins? Your B Vitamins (especially B12) are very important for people lacking energy and also lifts your mood. If you think your problem is nutrition related go get some B vitamins specifically look for B12. Take it everyday and soon you'll feel like this biggrin.gif tongue.gif cool.gif

I usually find that the actual act of going to the gym makes me feel a lot better about getting out and doing it. Set aside a time that you have to go by or we'll all hate you for it tongue.gif

Seriously, though, force yourself to go for the first couple weeks. Give yourself a certain time that you have nothing else going on so you have nothing else to do but go to the gym and bust your balls. You could also try getting someone else to go with you, especially a buddy that trains regularly.

For some people showing up is half the battle.

I couldnt agree more!! I find when I am working out solo, getting my ass into the gym is the toughest part. Once I am there I tear through a w/o no problem and feel great.

Some types for motivation:

Music (as stated, this can be huge)
Find a workout partner. (Meet a peer at the gym, make friends, meet him there periodically to lift) NOTE: much more difficult in practice. biggrin.gif

*I have found eating large carb meal prior to workout motivates me to go lift, due to the phsyioloiclal responce to the food.

Hope these help,

Good Luck!

Definitely a good suggestion... get your multivitamin, and a B complex. This can be more help than most realize, especially if your diet isn't the greatest.

This, along with caffeine, also really helps me get in the mood to lift when I'm tired/unmotivated.

I totally agree with using music to motivate yourself. For me I make a mix of pissed off music on my MP3 player and go at it.

Also I found that an important part of getting back into a routine is setting good goals. Here is an excerp from a slide from a lecture I did on goal setting:

Write your specific goals.
If it’s not in writing, it’s not a goal.
If it’s not specific, it’s not a goal.
Start with short-term goals.
Once you achieve a short-term goal, then set another.
Don’t over focus on the long-term end result.
Make a commitment to your goals.
Set your goals to alleviate frustration, not to create it.
Realized that goals must be adjusted as you go, growth takes unexpected turns.
Review your goals daily to keep yourself on track.

The lecture was for a nutritional class, but it can be applied universaly. The important part is to set achievable short term goals and think of each of them as steps in a progression. Don't get caught up in focus on the long term goals. Keeping a training log can also help with progression.

Good luck.

I might suggest a few alturnative reasons for your "dull-drums":

1) Are you sleep deprived? Are you getting your 7-10 hours a night or are you on the 3 hrs and a nap during lunch (like most of my college students are)? Or do wake-up to your own snoring often, indicating potential sleep apnea?

2) Are you sick, suffering from a low-grade infection your unaware of? Sinitius, for example, can be virtually undetected in many cases, but you are constantly fighting a low grade infection--it just wares you down.

3) Are you depressed? Does you job, life, relationsjip(s), etc. suck? Leathary is a primary symptom of low grade depression (I know, I had it for about 7 years).

Maybe the issue is simply motovation, in which case the previous suggestions will prove helpful I'm sure. But if they don't, maybe you should look into a medical reason.

Either way...NEVER GIVE UP!

"Getting a pump is like having an orgasm" The Oak

This quote is quite true, however it's quite disgusting when you think about how many men are traiing in your gym the same time you are.

Anyways, after the first few weeks, it's habit. Just be a mna and don't make excuses to not go to the gym and train. I also find a good warm up helps get me more motivated to lift hard/heavy.
Good luck, and don't be a pussy.

This is true .. it's tough to get back into a routine after not working out for a prolonged period of time. I am 3 weeks in to my training after a LONG time off. What helped me stick with it? Setting clear goals:

Do 45min cardio each day AFTER lifting.
Lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks.
More protein, less carbs. More veggies/fruit, less processed food.
Don't eat anything after 7pm.

Now I hit the gym 6x a week and am feeling great. But am nowhere near my ultimate goal: to lose 45 lbs, have tone muscle, and get Body Fat to under 15%.

I'm currently 5'9", weigh 231 (I know.. I'm a lardass) BFT around 19-22%

My question to you guys... I play soccer, do other cardio and lift regularly, but

WHAT SUPPLEMENTS and/or DIET ARE BEST TO ATTAIN MY GOALS OF LOSING SEVERE WEIGHT, MAINTAINING TONE MUSCLE ?

I currently take GNC Multivitamin and Hydroxycut w/ Ephedra (am almost out) and NitroTech Whey Protein.

I'm considering Liquid Clenbutrx, Hot Rox, Vasopro Ephedra... ADVICE??

My opinions...

Diet: Low calorie, high protein.

Supplements: The NitroTech is overpriced, just use whey protein or a cheaper blend. For fat loss use Vasopro Ephedrine and Prolab Caffeine. To help maintain muscle, if you consider it a priority, you can add some creatine.

More than anything, it takes willpower.

My personal suggestion, don't worry about getting back into a perfect routine right away. Take a week and at least get to the gym...that's the biggest part. For me, I don't worry about watching what I eat. That seems to take a TON of pressure off of me during that first week. Once you get going again that addictive need to workout will start kicking in, then you can start focusing on your diet.

And I totally agree with everybody with replies regarding music. It's a must have for me. Get something that lites a fire under your ass and take it with you.

If you need an energy boost....try taking the Vasopro Ephedra HCL with a Caffeine tab. It's a cheap and effective stack.
