hey guys this past winter i was pole vaulting and fractured one of my spinous processes in my lower back and now i am getting back into lifting but i need a lift to replace shrugs for my traps cuz i dont want to add too much pressure to my back yet. what do you think?

I'd just get face down on an incline bench and do shrugs. It'll target the upper back with out pulling down on the spine.

dont know if this would be too much or not but, you could do one arm cable shrugs, barbell (or dumbell) upright row or use a low cable with a somwhat wide grip (like a pulldown bar) and pull the cable towards your neck/upper chest as you pull it towards you. start out light and get a feel for em and good luck getting back into it.

Ill never be satisfied.

Yeah Id go with laying down shurgs or incline shrugs. Any other way youre gonna be compressing your spine.

You could also try playing with rows. Row high, and you can really hammer your traps. This is how I made huge gains on my back this year. Really focus on squeezing, so pick a weight you can row and concentrate with.
