It means that you're promised to be getting a specific amount of the active constituent that actually has the desired effect. A good example would be
yohimbe.

yohimbe powder, no matter what the mg. strength is, won't do anything for you unless it's standardized to contain a specific amount of
yohimbine, which is the alkaloid that actually does what ppl take the product for.
The point is, there's no use taking any herbal powder unless they can prove that there's a certain amount of what makes the product work in that powder. In this case, the Macuna wouldn't do a thing for you, unless it had L-dopa in it...and at a good enough concentration to work.
