Looking to add R-ALA. Which R-ALA product do you guys recommend. Glucophase xr is too expensive for me this time around. I am looking at the following three products:

Primaforce insopro-r
San R-ala
Syntrax R

Feel free to add your 2cents! But please remember I am on a budget. Thank you!

my next "ala" supplement purchase will probably be just the plain jane ALA over the r-ala, k-r-ala, and whatever other flavors are available.

Do you really think the "r" version or the "k" version is that much better? I used the plain jane ala from Walmart but I take a shitload of it, up to 1000 mgs. a day because I can afford it at $8.95 a bottle.

What's next the esterified methylated version?

Glucophase XR is actually pretty much the same price as what you have listed. You need to remember all the R-ALA supplements you have listed contain only 100mgs of R-ALA per capsule. So you will need to take two capsules every serving as opposed to one capsule of Glucophase XR which has 250mgs of K-R-ALA. Not to mention you still need to buy some form of biotin. It's going to take 2 bottles of whatever R-ALA product and a bottle or 2 of biotin to equal 1 bottle of Glucophase XR. The price comes out pretty much the same.

Bulk R-K-LA powda is the least expensive K-R-LA option.

GXR. Matt over at designer supps continues to put out quality products. He claims that the additions of quercitin and the analogues along with biotin help in getting krala to get nutrients into the muscle cells and away from fat cells. It is what I use, and will continue to use. To be honest, it is the only lipolic acid that I can actually "feel." For example, when taking it with other prods, it seems to almost double their felt effect. It is hard to explain, but many over at avant's site have felt the same effect. You ought to check out some of the HEAT + GXR reviews. Also, as someone already mentioned, you are getting 250 mg per cap of k-rala to begin with and 90 caps in a bottle.

if you're going to use it post workout, regular ALA is your better choice. you want to take advantage of the shift in insulin response post workout... spike your insulin and let it do its thing. any of the ALA's will shuttle your nutrients to fat as well as muscle. IMO post workout is THE worst time to take any of the ALA products

another vote for GXR, especially now that the price is a few bucks cheaper. Not only is there more in each capsule, it's a lot more effective and potent as well.

like others have said, it's the only one I feel.

Why is it the worst time (post workout) to take ALA? When would it be better? Here is some further info. I am pretty lean and I am trying to bulk. I will not try to cut up until a year from now.

post workout your muscle cells are sensitized to insulin and fat cells desensitized. insulin pushes nutrients more favorably into muscle than fat at this time.

ala acts independently of insulin, and thus excercise induced shift in insulin sensativity has no effect on where ALA puts glucose. ala will put it into fat just as readily as it will muscle.

taking ALA post workout will blunt your insulin repsonse and push glucose into fat, whereas NOT taking the ala, you will allow your body to shuttle nutrients around via insulin... which is putting them more favorably into muscle. taking ALA post workout you are essentially trading muscle for fat.
